Graduation Details! (The Abridged Version)

If you’re graduating this spring, you’re probably thinking, “while 287 separate graduation emails contain a lot of detail,” I’m still not sure where I’m supposed to be and when.  Fortunately, we’ve conducted a literature review of said emails and have consolidated their findings into a single blog post.  The Executive Summary is below:

Graduation Dates and Times:

PhD Candidates:

Thursday, May 18: PhD Program and Degree Conferral

Before you read any further, RSVP here! (You must RSVP by April 1)

4:00 pm: Students need to be in place in Lisner Auditorium, lower level (730 21st St, NW)

5:00 pm: PhD Program set to begin

After the ceremony: Graduates and their guests are invited back to the MPA Building for a celebration.  The reception will be held in 601z.

Sunday, May 21: University-wide Commencement Ceremony

8:30 am: Graduates should arrive on the National Mall wearing their regalia and line up by school

9:00 am: All guests should be seated

9:30 am: Academic processions begin

10:00 am: Ceremony begins

11:30 am: Ceremony concludes

 

Master’s Candidates:

Friday, May 19: Master’s Program and Degree Conferral

8:00 am: Students need to be in place in Funger Hall (2201 G St.)

8:30 am: Master’s Program set to begin

MPP/MPA After the ceremony: Students and their guests are invited to join us for the TSPPPA brunch (that’s “brunch,” not “light snacks,” so come hungry!) and student awards ceremony.  Brunch will be held in the Marvin Center Continental Ballroom.

ENRP After the ceremony: Students and their guests are invited to join ENRP for a celebration! The reception will be held in Phillips 411 immediately following the ceremony. Coffee, snacks, and champagne will be served.

Sunday, May 21: University-wide Commencement Ceremony

8:30 am: Graduates should arrive on the National Mall wearing their regalia and line up by school

9:00 am: All guests should be seated

9:30 am: Academic processions begin

10:00 am: Ceremony begins

11:30 am: Ceremony concludes

Tickets

All students will receive 6 tickets each.

Tickets to the Sunday Commencement will be mailed to the diploma address by Friday, April 21.

Tickets to the Celebration events (i.e., not the Sunday Commencement event) will be distributed from April 10 – May 12 (9:00 am to 4:30 pm) in Smith Hall, Room 118.

Be sure to bring your graduation confirmation receipt when you arrive.

Note that tickets will be distributed to graduates ONLY (so your friends and family will not be able to pick up tickets for you).

No extra tickets will be made available due to fire code restrictions.  If you will have extra tickets, please let your friends know in the various TSPPPA Facebook groups.

 

Graduation Regalia

Students can pick up/order regalia at the Grad Fair.

The Grad Fair will be held March 30 – April 1 in the Marvin Center, GW Bookstore and Ground Floor
